The Purple Box Project: Bringing Hope to Survivors and Their Children

Since 2019, Future Seed has led The Purple Box Project, an annual community initiative held during Domestic Violence Awareness Month to support survivors of domestic violence and their children as they rebuild their lives.

Each October, our community comes together to collect essential baby items, personal care products, and other necessities for families transitioning to safe and stable environments. What began as a local donation drive has grown into a meaningful tradition of compassion, bringing together residents, businesses, churches, schools, and community partners to provide hope through practical support.

Many survivors leave abusive situations with very few belongings. For parents with young children, rebuilding can be especially challenging. The Purple Box Project helps meet immediate needs while reminding survivors that they are not alone—that their community stands beside them with encouragement, dignity, and care.

How You Can Help

There are many ways to support The Purple Box Project:

• Donate essential baby items for children from newborn to 3 years of age.

• Contribute new or gently used items for mothers and older children.

• Donate personal hygiene products for the entire family.

• Host a collection drive at your church, business, school, civic organization, or workplace.

• Make a financial contribution to help purchase high-priority items and support local families.

Every donation, regardless of size, directly benefits survivors in our community who are working to create safe, healthy, and hopeful futures for themselves and their children.

Collection Period: October 1–28 (annually)

We Accept:

• Baby essentials for newborns through age 3

• New and gently used items for mothers and older children

• Personal hygiene products

• Other basic necessities that help families rebuild

Go Purple for Purple Thursday

Each year, on the third Thursday of October, communities across Louisiana observe Purple Thursday by wearing purple to raise awareness about domestic violence and show support for survivors.

We invite everyone to participate by wearing purple, decorating your home or workplace, and sharing why ending domestic violence matters. Be sure to tag @FutureSeedLA and use #PurpleBoxProject, #LAGoesPurple, #EndDomesticViolence, #SilentNoMore, and #LoveShouldntHurt when posting on social media.
